Using the Website

To get the most out of this website, you should create a new account for yourself to get a Username and Password.

  1. Click on the link "Create new account" in the User Login box at the upper left. (This assumes you do not have a Username already; if you are already logged in, you will not see this box).
  2. Follow the instructions: Type your desired user name. This is the name that will be associated with any content that you submit to the website . If you change your Username later on, the change will be reflected in all previous posts.
  3. Then, type in your email address in the next box, and click on the button "Create new account."
  4. A random password will be emailed to you immediately.
  5. After you receive your password, you can start over by clicking Home or typing www.amphibiatree.org in your browser window. Go to the login box at the upper left and enter your username and password. After you are logged in, you can then change your password to one of your choice.

After you login, you will able to do the following:

Edit your User Account information
Click on "My Account", then "Edit", then "Personal Information". You can enter information about yourself and your research interests. All fields are optional. Any content you post will have a link to your Username. By clicking this link, other users can find out something about you. Also, clicking the user list menu item will display information about all users.
Contribute a Story or News Item.
Under the ATree side menu, click "Create Content" and then "Story/News Item." Anyone with a Username can submit a news item or Story. You can bring new research or information to the attention of the general community. You can assign Keywords to your Story. Questions or requests for help should be sent to the appropriate Forum (see below for info about Forums).
Stories/news items have a "life span" and are automatically listed in chronological order. If you have some item that you think should be permanently posted, please contact David Cannatella.
Create a new Forum Topic.
Under the ATree side menu, click "Create Content" and then "Forum Topic." Any logged-in user can create a new Forum topic. A forum is a threaded discussion, enabling users to interact about particular topics and issues. You can post responses to other users' comments. You can assign Keywords to a Forum topic. Examples of forum topics might be "Bufonid systematics", "Aligning sequence data", "How to code morphology", "Tadpole chondrocrania." It is up to the users to decide what is of interest.
